World Of Warcraft Classic Nerfs Nightmare Incursion XP Gains In Season Of Discovery

Phase three of World of Warcraft Classic’s game-changing Season of Discovery has officially begun, and with it comes new ability runes to discover, the new Temple of Atal’Hakkar 20-player raid, and a level cap increase to level 50.

Unfortunately, it also included nerfs to XP gains from Nightmare Incursion quests to discourage players from using it as the sole source of XP at higher levels. “We always intended for Nightmare Incursions to be a very valuable source of experience,” Blizzard explains. “[...] One thing we didn’t intend was that they would be so much better than most other forms of experience gain between level 40 and 50.”

To compensate for the nerf, the developers have increased the XP boost granted by the Discoverer’s Delight buff from 50% to roughly 75% or more.

“One thing to note is that while we will reduce experience from Nightmare Incursions missions, the creatures within the Nightmare themselves are still impacted by Discoverer’s Delight,” says the devs. “As a result they will become more lucrative as well with this adjustment and they already have a higher than normal multiplier on their XP gain.”

The devs further explained that while they love Nightmare Incursions and believe that they’re a fun and flavorful addition to Season of Discovery, they don’t want to run the risk of it being “too much of a good thing” and ultimately becoming simply a means to an end. “We feel that this is the best compromise to keep incursions rewarding while also encouraging participating in questing and dungeons without feeling like you are leaving so much efficiency on the table.”
