World Of Warcraft Kicks Off A Limited-Time Pirate-Themed Battle Royale Event

Ahoy, mateys! World of Warcraft has caught the battle royale bug and is dipping its toes in the popular PvP genre with a limited-time event called Plunderstorm. It’s basically a pirate-themed battle royale event where players will get to duke it out in the Arathi Highlands for some good old last-man-standing fun. You’ll be using fresh characters for the event, so you won’t have to worry about levels and gear.

“With the release of the 10.2.6 content update, players can get swept away in the Plunderstorm – a fun, new, limited-time, pirate-themed event of prodigious proportions lasting the next several weeks,” Blizzard announced. “Scour the map and try to be the last pirate standing while dashing across the Arathi Highlands to find abilities, upgrades, and loot to plunder just to survive!”

Like most battle royale games, players will spawn on a single map that gets smaller over time. They’ll then need to level up and acquire new spells and abilities by killing mobs or other players while avoiding the encroaching storm. Matches will typically take around 10-15 minutes with up to 60 players competing to earn progression points that will go towards unlocking exclusive rewards and cosmetics for both the retail and Classic versions of the game.

Plunderstorm will be hosted on the retail servers which means that Classic players will need to install the retail client to in on the battle royale fun.
