PSO2: New Genesis Adds New Story Content And Buffs Monsters Amid SEGA Layoffs In The US
Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is wrapping up its current story arc as its February update goes live after a grueling nine-hour maintenance downtime. It’s well-worth the extended wait though as it introduced the final half of Chapter 6’s storyline, bumped up the level cap, and added new weapons.
In light of the new level 85 cap, developer SEGA has increased the level of several mobs in the Kvaris region and in the Belugana Ruins combat sector which has also been updated with new Starless enemies. Grand Torch Stands have also been added across Rayjord Gorge which will spawn powerful mobs when activated.
To help you take on the buffed-up monsters, the team also buffed preset skills (ive weapon bonuses) and added a new 10-Star weapon and a new 9-Star armor. You’ll still have to do the legwork to obtain the newly added gear, but they’ll undoubtedly come in handy as you work your way towards the new level cap.
Unfortunately, the February update lands as SEGA of America announces its plans to lay off 61 employees next month, according to a report by GamesIndustry.biz. The AEGIS-CWA union, however, has managed to some employees from getting the axe and negotiated severance packages for all contractual and temporary workers affected by the layoffs.
SEGA of America is the latest to add its name to the alarmingly growing list of video game companies that have undergone or are undergoing downsizing and restructuring over the past two years.
